I was in the regional (Midwest USA) record business at this time. Steve sold some of this REAL st Louis hounds record through our place. I would guess 100 or so. I too have a couple copies in my collection. one is signed by Scorfina, Surkamp AND Sigfried be fore he passed. I have always loved this record.

I forgot, my original copy is signed by Steve Scorfina

Must consider things before Internet!

The vinyl record released by the members is not really a bootleg but a self-released vinyl. True, they had to be careful because CBS had paid the bills for recording the stuff, so they did a real small amount at custom pressings to pass out. They gave them away this tiny pressing to family and friends and the LP and the disc never really left St.Louis.

No one would have ever knows this existed if a TEST PRESSING from CBS hadn’t surfaced in 1984 at an auction and gone for an exorbitant price.

Shortly after, one of the oldest (from around 1974, some of you probably who I mean) Worldwide mailorder seller of rare records learn about a St. Louis Hounds LP in an US collection.

Then, he spent around 4 fruitless years trying to find it.

Finally, the damn things turns up and it’s a good thing he latched on to them like he did because the band doesn’t have anymore, except Steve Scorfina who still had 5 copies.

The seller bought him the 5 copies left, kept 1 copy for himself, sold 1 in the USA and 3 went in Europe for big bucks.

At that time (June, 25, 1988), I got one of these 3 copies in a direct heavy trade against European rarities, and I still have it here.

A copy arrived to a big Italian collector/dealer, and few weeks later, a reissue (almost) identical to the original came out?

I can assure that this difference is so small that it must have both LP to find out, and much less obvious than for Morly Grey, Headstone, Corpus, etc…

I bought a dozen copies for my store and they were all sold in 1 day. I tried to re-ordered it after that, but without success. This 500 copies bootleg was already dispatched to dealers all around the world.

I never had it for sale anymore (even didn’t keep a reissue for myself). Then, I saw this Italian bootleg circulated for around 6 months in the mailorder lists, and then it disappeared.

Except that an original can still be found in the St. Louis area at a pretty decent price (cf. website in my previous copied comment). The only only reference is now Internet, but not in this case.

I'm pretty sure that almost all the copies that we have seen on the internet are these Italian bootlegs.

I can hardly imagine that more than a dozen of the 99 original copies have exceeded the boundaries of Missouri !!
